Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has been announced as the 2023/24 England Men’s Player of the Year by the Football Association on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Palmer, in a vote by supporters, finished ahead of Real Madrid talent Jude Bellingham, runner-up and Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka, third-placed, a player who topped the polls the last two years.
That incredible improvement in the national team saw Palmer start his England career with a 2-0 win over Malta back in November 2023, and went on to make nine senior caps. Palmer has played a fundamental role in England’s Euro 2024 campaign, with two goals across five appearances, including finding the net in their defeat to Spain in July. Earlier in the tournament, Palmer laid on Ollie Watkins’ winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.
At club level, too, he has been scoring at a fierce rate, netting six times in seven Premier League outings for Chelsea this term. His win means he becomes the first Chelsea player to secure the coveted prize since Ashley Cole in 2010, with his stock continuing to grow as one of England’s brightest young things.
