The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday 29 August 2022, rejected a suit appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to the United States of America.

At the ruling on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo struck out the lawsuit filed by Abubakar Malai, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, on the grounds that the application lacked merit.

The Nigerian government had been trying to extradite Kyari to the U.S. to answer the alleged link with Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, an alleged Nigerian internet fraudster currently in the US prison awaiting trial.

Kyari and six others individuals are presently facing a separate trial on allegations bordering on drug trafficking at a sister court. Justice Ekwo say has reported that there isn’t a basis to file the extradition request since Kyari is already on trial in Nigeria on allegations tabled against him in America.

This development is coming after Nigerian Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi pleaded guilty to Count Two of the charges against him in the US court.
