Belgian and Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has shared that he is exploring a new passion along with his motorsport racing team TC Racing and has set a long-term goal to participate in Formula 2.
Courtois 33 is at the decline of his brilliant football career, which is highlighted by the accomplishment of seven league titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, and more than 100 appearances for Belgium.
Yet, motorsport, especially Formula 1, has been his other sporting obsession for a long time.
“I have to say, I am very much into motor racing and Formula 1. I even watch MotoGP, but really no other sports except these,” Courtois explained to Sporza at the Belgian GP weekend at Spa. “I have been to Monaco, Le Castellet, Barcelona, and Spa. Each time it is great!”
Like every other kid of his age he loved Ferrari and was inspired by Michael Schumacher; Courtois took a step forward and became a team owner after supporting a Formula E team in Spain. From that, the TC Racing emerged and at present, the team is competing in Formula 4 Spain.
“Next year we will be going for Eurocup-3,” said Courtois. “However, without a big partner, it might be very hard for us to get to the Formula 1 level, but at least we want to be in Formula 3 and if luck is on our side, we will also be in Formula 2.”
Although he is not going to be seen on Netflix’s Drive to Survive, Courtois is at full speed on his journey to life after football.
