Even Davido, the famous singer, has found himself in the hot seat of controversy. Amaju Pinnick, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, didn’t hold back as he called out Davido for a no-show at an event, despite pocketing a hefty $94,600 in payment.
Adding a comical twist to the story, Pinnick revealed that not only did they pay Davido a small fortune, but they also splurged an additional $18,000 on a private jet for the “Unavailable Crooner,” who, as it turned out, was genuinely unavailable.
Pinnick shared “If he thinks he’s a big boy, we’ll kindly remind him that we are bigger. No jokes here.” In the midst of Davido’s back-and-forth, the organizers had to embark on a talent hunt and ended up booking Shallipopi as a last-minute replacement.
Pinnick continued to playfully drive his point home, stating, “When people claim they’re big, it’s quite amusing. Isn’t Burna Boy the reigning king of Nigerian music today? And guess what, he’s partly Itsekiri. Burna Boy’s grandma on his dad’s side hails from Itsekiri. So, he’s got the ‘big’ title.”
He didn’t stop there, questioning, “Is there an actor bigger than RMD in the film industry or a comedian grander than Ali Baba in comedy?”
Lesson learned, folks: in the land of jollof rice and Afrobeats, we might be too friendly for our own good. So, dear reader, next time you strike a deal, remember the golden rule – draft a contract and avoid those “stories that touch.” Or as we say in pidgin, “Abi make I face front?”
