With a 2-0 win over Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, Arsenal have extended their winning streak to eight matches in all competitions and will host Crystal Palace at the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

The Gunners, who last lifted the League Cup in 1993, made it four rounds with a calm and confident display and are now preparing to welcome Palace, who have been heavily beaten again – this time by Liverpool – during a poor run of form.

After a 2-0 victory over Tottenham, Newcastle United, the holders, will play Fulham at St. James’ Park. Goals from Fabian Schär and Nick Woltemade secured the win for the Magpies. Along with the Magpies, who are looking to defend the trophy they won last season, their first major domestic title since 1955, are the ones to watch in this year’s EFL Cup.

In another match, the Championship side, Cardiff City, which is the only non-Premier League team left in the competition, has received a short home game tie against Chelsea.

The quarter-final matches will be played in the week starting December 15.
