The Federal Government has started paying the salaries that were held back from members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) in federal universities and benefits to retired workers under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.
This action comes after President Bola Tinubu instructed the Finance and Education Ministers to clear the four months of unpaid salaries for non-teaching staff in universities, including NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), said the government has now provided the money needed to pay these withheld salaries and benefits. Many staff members have confirmed they have received the payments, which is a big help to those who were struggling financially because of the delays.
