Contrary to the recent political tensions between the U.S. and other countries, France has decided not to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sports minister Marina Ferrari has revealed.
There are no plans whatsoever to pull out of the tournament, Ferrari, the French sports ministe,r has declared during her recent interview. Besides that, the three-nation co-hosting of the event will feature the world champions of 2018, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Her statement follows the controversial remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump about Greenland and trade tariffs that briefly alarmed European countries.
Beforehand, Trump threatened Europe with 25% tariffs on certain products if a continent-wide agreement weren’t reached anytime soon. France was one of the nations that found itself at the receiving end during this spat over security and foreign policy. The French government has been debating pulling France out of the World Cup following the spat with the USA.

Among other questions, French Parliamentary member Éric Coquerel has effectively challenged the hosting of football’s largest event by the U.S. in these extremely difficult diplomatic relations. However, Ferrari has refused to entertain the idea of a sporting retaliation and has highlighted the importance of disentangling football from politics.
“We don’t think there is any desire from the ministry to boycott this great competition,” said Ferrari. “The World Cup is such a significant occasion for everyone who loves sport.”
Despite the political situation, France remains very focused on football. Didier Deschamps’s team is part of the group for the 2026 World Cup with Argentina and Spain as other favourites. Les Bleus have still not over the defeat to Argentina in the 2022 final.
Tallisman Kylian Mbappé and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé will definitely be carrying the team on their backs, and France will be full of confidence to go all the way and win the biggest prize in football. Their opponents in Group I shall be Senegal, Norway, and a fourth, which has yet to be confirmed.
The French football team will make their base in Boston during the group match staging, and they are set to play games at New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Boston, as they embark upon their journey to their third World Cup title.
