On Tuesday, 20th of December 2022, saw Germany right a wrong that was done to the Ancient Benin kingdom, as they returned over 20 Artefacts which was stolen by the British troop in the 1885 Benin invasion.
For many years, several ancient Artefacts made by our forefathers have been laid in museums and art collections across the US and Europe.
After several agitations from Nigerians to these countries, to return these artifacts, Germany decided to obey the call by returning these artifacts to their original home.
Annalena Bearbock, German Foreign Minister, traveled to Abuja, to return these artifacts.
According to her, they have decided to return our story, our roots, and to right a wrong they committed several years back
What we are returning is a part of your history, what we are returning is a part of who you are
“We are here to right a wrong,” Baerbock said at the ceremony with Nigerian officials.
