On Thursday, gunmen killed a Point of Sale (POS) agent known as Alfa in the Teaching Hospital Area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived on a motorbike, shot Alfa dead, and took away naira cash and other valuables.

The state’s police command’s public relations officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the body has been placed in a mortuary while an investigation is conducted to identify and apprehend those responsible.

What they’re saying

His words:
“As soon as we received the information, we deployed our soldiers to the scene. The man was discovered lying down in a pool of his own blood and taken to the main hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“His body was deposited in the mogue. The commissioner of police has ordered an investigation into the incident to guarantee that the culprits are apprehended and brought to justice.

“This is similar to a case that happened on Monday net the market, when a ticketing officer of the Okada Riders Association was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman.

Bottom Line

This isn’t an isolated event, as there was a similar mention of another recent killing by unknown gunmen. This kind of violence can understandably create a climate of fear and insecurity.

If criminals believe they can easily get away with gun violence, it emboldens them and discourages others from coming forward as witnesses. The DSP did well by taking immediate action.
