The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 94.13% of the results from the Ondo State governorship election have been uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal. As of 7:56 pm on Saturday, results from 3,702 out of 3,933 polling units where the election took place have been made available online.
Key Contenders in the Race
Although 18 political parties participated in the election, the main contest was between the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former deputy governor Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Interestingly, both candidates share a political connection—they each served as deputy governors in the administration of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa assumed the governorship following Akeredolu’s passing last year, which positioned him as a key contender for a full term in office.
Peaceful Voting Process
Reports indicate that the election was largely peaceful. Voting commenced at 8:00 am across the state’s 3,933 polling units, with materials arriving in some locations as early as 6:00 am. Voting concluded around 2:30 pm in many areas, after which officials began sorting and counting ballots.
INEC’s Commitment to Transparency
INEC’s timely upload of election results to its portal underscores its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process. With a significant portion of the results already available, the public and stakeholders continue to monitor the developments closely as the final outcomes are awaited.
