Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s student loan handout plan, calling it a “windfall to the rich” and “corrupt university administrators.” Vance has consistently opposed the plan, which he believes is “unfair and illegal.”
Despite the plan being blocked by the Supreme Court in June 2023, the White House continues to pursue a revised proposal. Vance has also sponsored legislation to reform federal student loans, including a bill to discharge parents’ loans if their child becomes totally and permanently disabled.
The Biden administration’s plan, which aims to cancel student loan debt for borrowers earning up to $125,000 per year, has been met with stiff resistance from Republicans, who argue that it unfairly benefits high-income earners and perpetuates a corrupt system.
