In a remarkable achievement, Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign announced today that it has raised $540 million in a period of little over one month, making it a record for any campaign in history.
This remarkable feat came soon after President Joe Biden endorsed Harris when he withdrew from the race for the White House on July 21. The unprecedented fundraising success of the campaign reflects the broad base of support for Harris’ candidacy.
According to campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, among these amounts are funds raised by both the campaign itself and other bodies like the Democratic National Committee, as well as joint fundraising committees. Importantly, one-third of these contributions came from first-time donors.
Harris’ campaign strategy involved mobilizing both big and small donors, indicative of a changeover from the uncertainty that followed President Biden’s June debate performance, when his ratings fell.
Additionally, a large number of volunteers had been mobilized by the campaign, who registered in hordes across the country.
Conversely, Donald Trump’s Republican competitor reported having $327 million in cash reserves at the beginning of August, while their battleground structure was relatively scanty.
