A decision on Manchester City’s 115 financial charges may not come until October at the earliest, The Independent has stated, as the Premier League’s most high-profile legal case seems to be never-ending.
The charges that are relating to the faking of the books for the period of 2009 till 2018, were made public at the beginning of 2023 and the hearing ended in December.
After that, there have been no updates for the case, which is causing anger and conspiracy among fans and clubs to arise.
The sources reveal that the decision could be given at the same time as the international break that will be this year, like the case of City’s Associated Party Transaction that ended in October 2024.
Even when the judgment is given, the consequences may still be long in coming. The party that loses is required to appeal, which may thus extend the situation to deep into 2025.
Premier League CEO Richard Masters was questioned during Sky Sports’ Summer Series about the situation but he repeated that he could not give any information.
“Since it is a confidential process, I really cannot give any information about timing or other things,” he responded. City are still claiming they are not responsible.
Although grave sanctions may be issued in case of a guilty verdict, such as fines and points deductions, expulsion from the Premier League is considered as not very probable, since it would necessitate a majority vote from member clubs.
