American singer Mariah Carey has informed her fans that her mother and sister both died last weekend. She revealed this sad development to the public on Monday in a statement she released but did not reveal how the two died, or the exact date of passing.
“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I was blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey stated.
Mariah has cited her mother, Patricia Carey, a former opera singer, as a major inspiration in her singing career, with the two performing together before her demise. Mariah who had a very nice relationship with her mom was not on good terms with her sister Alison as she explained in her book. Carey said she felt that it was safer not to have any contact with both Alison and her brother Morgan.
This tragedy follows the death of their father, Alfred Roy Carey, who succumbed to cancer in 2002.
