Militating factors in Saraki’s predicted return to the APC

Bukola Saraki, the former governor of Kwara State, may remain a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the general elections in 2023. It’s possible that the top politician will rule out defecting to the APC. At this critical juncture, there are two elements that will keep him in the PDP.

The first factor is that Bukola Saraki had been to a different party. The politician was among the disgruntled PDP members that defected to the APC in the run-up to the 2015 general elections. On the APC platform, he was elected senator. However, in his bid to be the Senate President, he was despised by the APC leadership. To get to the top, he had to influence PDP senators in the Senate.

As a result, returning to the same party would be tough. If he performs his permutations correctly, he would choose to stay in the PDP. Saraki would utilize his expertise to pick his own destiny, despite the fact that Nigerian politicians are notoriously unpredictable.

The second point is that if he leaves the PDP now to join the APC, he may encounter some difficulties from the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress. If Saraki joins the APC, he would almost certainly aspire to become a national leader. The state-level crises, on the other hand, would be a concern.

Lai Mohammed and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak are at odds. The two men are competing for control of the APC in the state, and each of them wants to be the party’s leader. For years, they haven’t had much in common.
