There was outrage in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly on Tuesday, November 21 following the pronouncement of Senator Osita Ngwu, the representative of Enugu West as the new Senate Minority Whip.
Ngwu of the Peoples Democratic Party –PDP, was named as the minority leader by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, a development that had not gone down well with some Labour Party senators.
Senator Okechukwu Ezea from Enugu North had objected the nomination supported by Senator Tony Nwoye of LP who equally rose to challenge the transfer of three slots of the minority leadership to the PDP, leaving the Labour Party with no representative in the senate leadership.
Ngwu is replacing Labour Party’s Senator Darlington Nwokwocha, who represented Abia Central district, until his dismissal by the Lagos Court of Appeal on November 4.
During the plenary, Akpabio named Abba Moro, the lawmaker representing Benue South to be the new Minority Leader of the Senate.
Moro is replacing Senator Simon Nwadkwon, the representative of Plateau North on the platform of the PDP who was dismissed by the court on October 23.
