When you hear that the PDP Convention was blocked, you already know drama is back again in Nigeria’s opposition party. Honestly, I am not even shocked anymore. PDP always finds a way to show the world that internal fights can scatter a whole national plan. This latest court order stopping their 2025 convention shows that the party still has not learned from past mistakes. Instead of focusing on how to return to power, they are busy dragging themselves in public again.
Court says “Stop first”
A Federal High Court in Abuja did not smile with PDP at all. Justice James Omotosho made it clear that the party cannot hold any national convention until it follows its own rules and the laws of Nigeria. The judge basically said, “Sort your house before calling a family meeting.” That is how serious it is. He even stopped INEC from accepting any result from a PDP convention that does not follow due process. Very simple instruction, but somehow PDP still needs a court to remind them.
This is not just about a date or venue, it is a major embarrassment.
The PDP Convention being blocked like this shows once again that the internal crisis is doing more damage than any opponent outside the party. Sometimes it looks like their biggest enemy is not APC, but themselves.

Aggrieved members everywhere
The court case did not fall from the sky. Three members of the party dragged PDP to court. Yes, their own members. They wanted to stop the November 15 and 16, 2025 convention in Ibadan because they believed PDP did not follow its own constitution. Imagine a party planning to elect new national officers, but some members feel sidelined and go to court. That alone tells you that the internal crisis has exploded again in the party. No unity, No peace, No proper structure.
Nine people and bodies were listed as defendants, from INEC to top PDP officers like the national secretary and national organising secretary, plus NWC and NEC members. It is not a small fight, It is deep, it is internal, and it shows why people say PDP has forgotten the meaning of “opposition strength.”
When will PDP learn?
At this point, Nigerians are tired. Every election season, PDP promises “reform” and “fresh start,” but every year we see the same confusion. Instead of preparing to challenge the ruling party, they are giving free entertainment with court cases and drama. A blocked convention should be a wake-up call, but will they listen? PDP needs to stop acting like a party in secondary school hostel politics.
I am not saying they should be perfect, but at least pretend you are serious about power. A party that cannot conduct a simple convention, how will it run a whole country again? This PDP Convention blocked order should shake them, because the internal crisis exploding again is becoming too shameful.
Politics should not be this childish
People are suffering in this country, Nigerians need strong opposition to hold government accountable. Instead, PDP keeps washing its dirty linen in public. If they continue like this, voters will move on completely. And honestly, who will blame them? Democracy needs strong parties, not endless ego fights.
Until PDP learns respect for process and unity, Nigerians will keep seeing court rulings and internal fights instead of real political plans.
And truly, if they do not fix this now, 2027 may meet them still arguing over who is in charge. The country has moved on. PDP needs to catch up.
