On Monday, British police announced that they were evaluating information shared by the BBC regarding allegations that a TV presenter had paid a teenager to participate in explicit photo sessions. However, no criminal investigation has been initiated at this stage.
Following the claims made by the Sun newspaper about the presenter, the broadcaster suspended a male staff member on Sunday.
The identity of the star involved has not been disclosed publicly by the newspaper, the BBC, or the police. According to reports, the presenter allegedly paid the teenager £35,000 ($44,828) over a three-year period, beginning when the teenager was 17.
While the age of consent for sex in England is 16, images of individuals under 18 can be classified as child pornography. The Metropolitan Police in London confirmed that detectives from their specialist crime command held an online meeting with the BBC earlier on Monday.
