President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to pay N70,000 as the new minimum wage.

Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, said this at the conclusion of the meeting between organised labour and the government.

Labour leaders attended the meeting, including Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The labour leaders arrived at 2.15pm in a white 32-seater Coaster bus and proceeded directly to the President’s first-floor office, where the meeting is scheduled to take place.

Mohammed idris statement is the only information as regards the agreement and outcome of the meeting.

Final Thoughts

After several months of back and forth, this is a reasonable wage .

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to set the minimum wage at N70,000 represents a significant policy move in addressing economic challenges and workers’ welfare in Nigeria.

Given the current economic climate, including inflation and the cost of living, this increase can potentially provide much-needed relief to many workers.
