A High Court sitting in Ibadan has officially cleared Queen Naomi of all charges related to the Ibadan funfair tragedy that led to the deaths of over 30 children at the 2024 Christmas event held in Basorun, Oyo State. Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled that Queen Naomi, journalist Oriyomi Hamzat, and school principal Abdulahi Fasasi were not guilty, dismissing the case against them.

Court Clears Queen Naomi in Ibadan Funfair Case

Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled in favor of Queen Naomi, Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi, following a motion by the Oyo State Attorney General, Abiodun Aikomo, to withdraw the case. According to Aikomo, the victims’ families expressed empathy toward the defendants and requested the case be dropped.

Queen Naomi Cleared in Ibadan Funfair Tragedy Case

The Ibadan funfair tragedy remains one of the most devastating incidents in Oyo State, as over 30 children lost their lives in a stampede during the event. Initially, Queen Naomi, Hamzat, and Fasasi were held responsible, but the latest court ruling has cleared them of all charges.

Why Was Queen Naomi Discharged in the Ibadan Funfair Case?

The court’s decision to clear Queen Naomi was influenced by compensation agreements reached with some families. The court also confirmed that seized documents had been returned, further signaling that the Ibadan funfair case was resolved outside of court.

While some people view this ruling as an act of justice and mercy, others question whether the Ibadan funfair deaths could have been prevented. Could the tragedy have been avoided if proper security measures were in place? Was enough done to protect the children attending the event?

Mixed Reactions to Queen Naomi’s Acquittal in Ibadan Funfair Tragedy

The Ibadan funfair case has sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria. While some agree with the court’s decision to discharge Queen Naomi, others feel that justice was not fully served. Many argue that event organizers should have been held accountable, while some believe that the case’s withdrawal was justified based on the families’ wishes.

The Ibadan funfair tragedy raises serious concerns about event safety in Nigeria. If over 30 children could die at a public event, what preventive measures are in place to avoid such disasters in the future? Who takes responsibility when mass casualties occur at entertainment venues?

What Next After Queen Naomi’s Discharge?

Now that Queen Naomi has been cleared in the Ibadan funfair case, attention must shift to preventing similar tragedies. The Nigerian government, event organizers, and security agencies must enforce strict safety regulations at public gatherings, especially those catering to children. The Ibadan funfair disaster serves as a painful wake-up call about the dangers of poor crowd management and inadequate emergency preparedness.
