After Birmingham City minority owner Tom Brady spoke about Rooney’s lack of work during his brief time as Blues manager, Wayne Rooney has come out to the media and defended himself against the claims.
As part of the Knighthead Capital takeover, Brady purchased a 3.3% stake in the club in 2023 and expressed his concerns in the new Amazon documentary Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues. The NFL legend stated that he was not impressed with the former Manchester United star’s manner during his short period of time.
On the other hand, Rooney has characterized the dispute as unfair and stated in his new BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show.
“Tom only came in once, which was the day before a game when training is lighter anyway. I don’t believe he really understood football that well. Football is not the NFL.
Players need their rest. I don’t think he’s been very fair in the way he’s portrayed that.”
Rooney only lasted 83 days in the Birmingham hot seat recording 2 wins in 15 matches before the Blues were in a relegation battle. The club, however, has since recovered to win League One with a record 111 points last season.
Birmingham, who are among the promotion favorites this time, have a match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday before the visit of Port Vale in the EFL Cup.
