Super Eagles player has won the best African Player of the 2022/23 season in La Liga. Chukwueze has performed really well for Villarreal this season, having scored 13 goals after 37 games and also bagged 11 assists, he has attracted the interest of several top clubs like Real Madrid, and several premier league clubs. The star has re-presented Nigeria well by emerging as the best African Player in La Liga.

According to Villarreal, Chukwueze was voted by more than 30,000 fans defeating other good players like iñaki Williams, Youseff En-Nesyri and others to win the award.

“Samu is now enjoying his well-deserved award, after being voted by more than 30,000 fans and 26 journalists from the continent, ahead of other top African players such as Yassine Bono, Iñaki Williams, and Youssef En-Nesyri, among others,” Villarreal wrote about the Nigerian.

Speaking about his award, he said that he’s excited to win the award, as his hard work for this season is gradually paying off, he further appreciated his teammates for their cooperation on the pitch, as without their support, he wouldn’t have won the award.

“I feel so happy to win this award,” he told La Liga’s website. “I’ve worked very hard this season, but I want to thank my teammates for making it possible. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible for me… and the coach [Quique Setién] too. When the coach believes in you, and gives you the confidence to play and enjoy yourself, it really motivates you.

He also said that he’ll continue to work hard as there’s so much more to achieve, seeing that he’s still very young.

Nigerian players in several leagues are doing well for themselves, seeing how Victor Osimhen has established his name in the Serie A, and how Chukuweze is doing in La Liga, coupled with this award, Nigeria indeed has sons!
