A soldier from the 14 Brigade Headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Barrack,Ohafia local government area of Abia State, attached to the 144 Battalion’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) at Ngwa is said to have committed sucide.
The soldier who was commonly called Vitalis committed suicide in front of the FOB gate. The reason for his choice to commit suicide in front of the army camp was unknown at the time the report was filed, as there was no suicide note.
According to sources within the State’s security agents, only a discreet investigation will reveal what prompted him to commit suicide, and any attempt to speculate on what may have led to his decision to commit suicide may jeopardise the outcome of the investigation into the state’s army leadership.

People around said that up until the soldier’s death, there was no known case of domestic abuse or work-related disciplinary action taken against him by army authorities at the Battalion or 14 Brigade Headquarters.
According to reports, the hr vanished without a trace and has been incommunicado for the past two weeks, despite many attempts by colleagues and military officials to contact him.
He was believed to have returned to the army barracks and shot himself, surprising his colleagues .
According to reports, the deceased would have retired from service in October and this leaves his colleagues perplexed as to why he committed suicide.
