The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed condolences over the death of a member of the House, Hon. Olaide Adewale Akinremi.
On Wednesday morning, Hon. Akinremi, the member for the Oyo North Federal Constituency, passed away. The House Committee on Science Research Institutions was chaired by him. In a sympathy letter, the Speaker expressed his sadness upon learning of Hon.
Akinremi’s passing through his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi. Hon. Akinremi, according to the Speaker, was a patriotic and devoted Nigerian who fiercely championed his people. He would be much missed.
In a brief plenary session on Wednesday, Speaker Abbas announced the death of Hon. Akinremi, saying, “Honourable Members of the House, it is with a heavy heart and sorrow that we announce the departure of the esteemed Hon.
Prince Olaide Adewale Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban. He served as a committed member of this House, representing the Ibadan North Federal Constituency with unshakable commitment and distinction.
“Prince Akinremi’s commitment to public service was exceptional.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Research Institutions, he made important contributions to both his constituency and the country. His leadership in providing palliatives, as well as his assistance for local artists, traders, and social groups during difficult times, demonstrated his strong commitment to the well-being of his constituents.
“Apart from his political career, Prince Akinremi was a wealthy businessman and philanthropist. His efforts to empower women, kids, and the underprivileged have had a lasting impact on his community. His efforts to promote unity and development in Ibadan North gained him love and respect across party lines.
“Prince Akinremi is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Adama Akinremi, and their five children. His legacy of dedication, compassion, and leadership will continue to motivate us all. We send our heartfelt sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his spirit find eternal peace.”
The House held a minute of silence in remembrance of the late legislator. The MPs adjourned plenary on Thursday, as is customary in the Green Chamber.
