Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has alleged that an attempt was made on his life during a recent performance, claiming he was injected by a member of the crowd in a manner he likened to the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the singer recounted the chaotic experience, saying he had been paid ₦10 million to perform but was overwhelmed by an uncontrollable crowd.
“Na event I go perform, they gave me N10m. The people I met at the show are more than 100 million. What is it — do they want to destroy the hotel? They said they want to come and watch me,” he said.
Portable claimed that amid the frenzy, he was suddenly injected by someone in the audience.
“My fans, they were snapping pictures, my fans, they injected me. They wanted to do me the way they did Mohbad,” he stated.
According to him, he acted quickly in self-defense.
“People were hugging and supporting me, and one guy just came and injected me and ran away. Immediately, I hit the mic on his head. I beat up to six people before they came to their rescue,” he added.
The singer also claimed his leg was severely hurt during the stampede.
“See, they’ve broken my leg. More than 30 billion people rested on my leg,” he said, using exaggerated figures in his usual dramatic tone.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been made by the event organisers or authorities regarding the alleged incident.
