Nigerian social media activist and critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called out his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over a recent advisory post that he deemed discouraging and fear-driven.
Adeyanju had taken to his official X (formerly Twitter) page to advise the outspoken influencer to be cautious in his activism, writing:
“If anything happens to you today, everyone will move on by tomorrow.”
While the post appeared to be a heartfelt caution, it sparked strong disapproval from VeryDarkMan, who felt betrayed by someone he considers an ally in the struggle for justice.
In a video response, VDM said:
“First thing first, I’m really disappointed in my lawyer, Deji Adeyanju… especially because you are a comrade. If it was an ordinary Nigerian that said this, I would have assumed they don’t know better.”
He went on to condemn the statement as an example of fear-mongering often used by political elites to stifle dissent and discourage activism. According to him, death is inevitable, and the world naturally moves on, regardless of who dies.
“Jesus Christ died, the world moved on. The Pope died, the world moved on. Buhari died, Nigeria moved on. So who do you think is special?” he questioned.
VeryDarkMan described such caution as a “coward talk,” arguing that it is the same narrative used by those in power to suppress courageous voices.
“That talk na coward talk. That’s what politicians use to silence people,” he stated.
He further maintained that danger is a part of everyday life, even for those who avoid risks. He cited examples from states like Benue, Borno, Delta, and Enugu to drive home his point that insecurity affects everyone — regardless of whether they speak up or remain silent.
“You think you’re important? We are all nothing. You add so much importance to your life when you are nothing,” he added.
Known for his fearless stance and no-holds-barred commentary, VeryDarkMan affirmed that taking risks is an inseparable part of activism and change-making.
