Baluch militants launched an assault on a police station in southeastern Iran, resulting in the death of 11 security personnel and injuries to several others, according to state television reports on Friday.
The town of Rask in the impoverished province of Sistan-Baluchestan witnessed intense clashes, leading to the demise of multiple members of the militant Jaish al-Adl group, as stated by state media.
Sistan-Baluchestan, a province bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, predominantly houses a Sunni Muslim population, distinct from the majority Shi’ite demographic found in most parts of Iran.
This region has been a frequent hotspot for confrontations between security forces and both Sunni militants and drug smugglers over the years.
Jaish al-Adl, a militant group advocating for greater rights and improved living conditions for ethnic minority Baluchis, has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks on Iranian security forces in the province in recent years.
