A water body has taken the life of an Air Force cadet, Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche on Tuesday.

According to reports, the cadet had died in the swimming pool of Damgrete Hotel in Umuahia, the Abia State capital city.

An anonymous source had revealed that the deceased had gone to the hotel’s facility to swim at a time the pool was still undergoing renovation.

It was not immediately clear if the victim was informed about the ongoing renovation exercise before he plunged into the pool but his body was eventually recovered by men of the Abia State Fire Service and later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia.

His dead body was recovered with his swimming trunks, showing that he had made plans to swim before the unfortunate incident happened.

Further reports revealed that he had disappeared from the pool at about 6:37 pm on Tuesday but was recovered around 9:58 pm.

The swimming pool had been said to be in a bad shape, hence, making the rescue effort hard and there had been no divers to help out in the rescue effort until the arrival of men of the state fire service.

Lt. Innocent Omale, the Army Public Relations Officer of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, had confirmed the incident.

According to him, the deceased was said to be hanging out with his friends when he, in an apparent spur of the moment decision, jumped into the swimming pool.
