Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, on Sunday inaugurated a female hostel at Clifford University, Abia State, named in honor of his late mother, Veronica Adeleke.
The dedication coincided with the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered the commencement address to graduating students.
In a post shared on his X handle, #Davido encouraged the graduates to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact with their talents, emphasizing that true greatness is measured not by fame or numbers, but by the lives one influences.
“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power.
“I told them that talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” Davido said.
The singer described the hostel dedication as a tribute to his late mother, an educationist and philanthropist, noting that walking through the building reminded him that her legacy continues through acts of kindness and empowerment.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he wrote.
The event also saw the presence of his friend and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to cover the school fees of 50 students.
Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for his contribution to education and for motivating young Africans to strive for excellence.
The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, attended by university management, students, and invited guests.
