The Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, workers have closed down the offices of the agency across the 36 states of the federation and its head office in Abuja after a delay in the implementation of their salary adjustment.
The protesting workers under the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, and the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, NUBIFI, had stormed the NSITF offices as early as 8. a.m on Friday morning, March 10 singing solidarity songs.
The protesting workers had allegedly said that the NSITF management had agreed to commence the implementation of the new salary adjustment and review from January 2023 but the management had kept on postponing the date.
Meanwhile, in reaction to the nationwide protest, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has promised to begin the implementation of the new salary packages.
