A 15-year-old schoolgirl lost her life in a stabbing incident in Croydon, South London during the Wednesday morning rush hour.
The victim, a student at the Old Palace of John Whitgift independent girls’ school, was fatally stabbed by a 17-year-old boy, reported to have been acquainted with the girl. He has been taken into custody.
Police responded swiftly to the distressing scene following reports of a girl being attacked on Wellesley Road, near the Whitgift shopping center, at approximately 8:30 am. The Metropolitan Police were accompanied by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, but despite their efforts, the young girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene shortly after 9:20 am.
An eyewitness recounted a tragic altercation between the victim and the boy, both in school uniform, on a bus they had been traveling on together. According to the witness, their argument escalated to a fatal stabbing. The witness described the weapon as a long knife with a jagged edge, resembling a machete, and recounted the harrowing moment when the victim was stabbed in the throat.
Another local resident reported the chaotic scene on the bus, with passengers, including children, fleeing in panic. A third eyewitness recalled the weapon used as being similar to a sword and described a failed attempt by the boy to offer the girl flowers before the tragic stabbing occurred. A police officer attempted to control the bleeding, but the severity of the wound resulted in significant blood loss.
