Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has expressed the view that Afrobeats could have achieved even greater global success if top artistes like Davido and Wizkid had worked together more often.
Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Asika compared the trajectory of Afrobeats to that of Latin music, which he believes owes much of its global impact to the strong culture of collaboration among artistes like J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Nicky Jam.
He argued that unity among Afrobeats stars would have strengthened the genre’s international reach and commercial value.
“Afrobeats would have been bigger if Davido, Wizkid and the likes of others were collaborating,” Asika said.
“I might be wrong but the probability of Afrobeats being more successful and bigger is a thing. Our genre ticket values at international shows will be stronger.”
He called on Afrobeats artistes to place more emphasis on collaboration rather than competition, adding that joint efforts would help elevate the genre on the global stage.
