The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, has shifted the date for the local government area election. The new date the elections will hold on will be on the 17th of August, 2024.
The Executive Chairman of BASIEC, Ahmed Makama, had made this disclosure in a statement on Friday., July 5.
According to Makama, the original plan had been to hold the elections on August 10 but for undisclosed reasons, the former date could not be sustained.
He had also called on political parties and other stakeholders to be mindful of the new adjustment and clean up its internal mechanisms ahead of the exercise.
Recall that after the tenure formerly elected chairmen and councilors in 2020 expired, all the 20 local government chairmen and vice chairmen began being appointed on an interim basis.
Why It Matters
The decision by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) to shift the election date holds significant implications. By moving the elections from the initial August 10 date to August 17, 2024, BASIEC aims to ensure a fair and well-prepared electoral process. This adjustment provides an opportunity for political parties and stakeholders to fine-tune their strategies and internal mechanisms.
