Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about the emotional toll his music career takes on him, revealing that he sometimes regrets working so hard—despite being born into a life of comfort and wealth.
In a candid conversation with music executive Bankulli after his sold-out performance at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, over the weekend, Davido shared how demanding the music industry has been for him mentally and emotionally.
“I regret to myself for being hardworking,” the award-winning singer admitted, noting that the pressure, expectations, and constant stress of his career weigh heavily on him—even though he doesn’t need to hustle for money.
Davido, the son of Nigerian billionaire Adedeji Adeleke, stressed that his drive is fueled by passion rather than the pursuit of wealth.
“It’s not for the money,” he said. “I have billions of dollars waiting for me. Even if I never work again, I’ll be fine. But I’m doing this because I love it and because of the fans.”
Despite his privileged background, Davido has chosen to build a name for himself in the entertainment industry, becoming one of Afrobeats’ most recognized global figures through consistent hard work and chart-topping hits.
The singer’s comments have sparked fresh conversations about the hidden pressures behind fame and the personal sacrifices many artists make, even when financial security isn’t a concern.
