Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, stated on Sunday that Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti had sought his legal counsel following the singer’s assault on a police officer.
Falana, who confirmed the news to our correspondent, also stated that the artist possesses sufficient evidence to defend himself.
There were rumors that a police team sent to arrest Kuti couldn’t find him when they arrived at his home.
Attempts to obtain confirmation from police authorities were futile, as the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached by phone.
In response, Falana stated that the troubled singer would surrender on Monday.
Falana also represented the singer’s father Fela during his anti-government protests in Nigeria, which resulted in his detention in 1993.
On Saturday, a viral video showing the singer attacking a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State surfaced.
As a result, the singer was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
The IG has also ordered a prompt and thorough inquiry into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged attack, as well as the prosecution of the suspect.
In a social media post on Saturday night, the musician claimed that the police officer in question attempted to assassinate him and his family.
