You’re what you eat, especially when it comes to hormones and how balanced they are in the body. Hormonal imbalance is a reality many face, but they don’t realize it. Both men and women struggle from hormonal imbalance which causes them to be tired, and have a fluctuating weight. These seemingly ordinary struggles can point to a hormonal disruption in the body’s hormonal system.

The good news is that food is a good way to restore balance in your hormonal system. Rather than relying solely on medication to give you that balance you desire, you can opt to switch your diet with hormone-supporting foods. They are natural and effective. Let’s look into different types of hormone balancing foods and their benefits.

Hormone-Balancing Nutrients

Fatty acids: There are fats that are considered healthy like omega-3 and omega-6, which help with hormones. These fats help create hormones that manage stress and reproduction. Omega-3 fats can reduce swelling in the body, which helps keep the hormones balanced.

Food sources: fatty fish like salmon, flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts.

Fiber: Fiber keeps the hormone levels steady, especially those of estrogen. It does this by attaching to extra hormones in the body and helping get rid of them. This stops those hormones from causing mood swings or weight gain.

Food sources: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans.

Protein: Protein isn’t only a muscle building nutrient, it also helps regulate hormones and keeps you full. When you eat enough protein, it helps control blood sugar and keep the stress hormones in check.

Food sources: Chicken, fish, tofu, and lentils.

Hormone-Balancing Foods

Cruciferous vegetables: Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and kale help the liver to work better. When the liver works well, it helps remove extra hormones from the body.

Soy products: Food made from soy, like tofu and soy milk, have a natural chemical called phytoestrogens, which act like a mild form of estrogen in the body. This can help women, especially those in their menopause, to manage the hormone changes and also reduce symptoms like hot flashes.

Fermented foods: The term “fermented food,” may not sit well with some people. But there are a lot of foods that we eat on a daily basis which have gone through the fermentation process. A common example is yogurt. Fermented foods are good for the guy, because they help the body to function well, and also help to manage hormones.

Herbs and spices: Herbs and spices like parsley and cilantro help to clear out toxins, while sage helps to support the female hormones.

Conclusion

We talked about how certain nutrients, like healthy fats, fiber, and protein, are important for keeping hormones balanced. We also looked at how foods like broccoli, soy, yogurt, and spices can support hormone health. Eating the right foods can make a big difference in feeling better and staying healthy.

However, balancing hormones isn’t just about what you eat; it’s also about living a healthy lifestyle. Choosing better foods and healthy habits can help you feel more energetic and improve your mood.
