The U.S. Virgin Islands government stated its intent to seek a federal emergency declaration to secure resources for comprehensive testing and assistance. The local Department of Health established hotlines and provided options for lead exposure testing to address concerns.
While the advisory prohibits the consumption of tap water, officials clarified that it remains safe for activities such as showering and cleaning.
