Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State had in the early hours of Wednesday, June 14 (today), continued with his demolition agenda in Kano, destroying the roundabout located near the Government House entrance. The roundabout is reputed to have cost millions of Naira to erect.
Today’s demolition was overseen by the governor himself, under watertight security, as his office was in close proximity to the roundabout.
The demolished roundabout had been renovated and remodelled by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor and it had reportedly cost N160 million, back in 2017 when it was built.
Abba Yusuf has been carrying on with the demolitions in the state despite having been cautioned by several notable individuals and groups.
One such group, Progressive Foundational Movement, PFM, had alluded that these demolitions were being done as a ploy to destroy Ganduje’s legacies.
Of course, Yusuf has denied the allegations, stating that his aim had been to beautify and ensure a strict adherence to urban planning in the state.
This writer, however, believes that there are other more practical ways to go about urban planning in the state and that Governor Yusuf is merely being acrimonious.
