Luke Shaw has described Manchester United’s dressing room as “toxic” and “not healthy at all” during his 11-year stay at the club.
The veteran left-back said in Chicago that negativity has been the main issue at United for a long time and multiple managers have been unable to bring the club back to its glory days.
But Shaw thinks new head coach Ruben Amorim has the right qualities to change that.“It’s not hard for me to see what it has been from the outside,” admitted Shaw. “Most of the time, it was very negative.
We need an environment that is healthy, with good energy and happiness.”Amorim, who has been in charge since last November, did not hesitate to take some drastic measures—he expelled Marcus Rashford because of training standards and had a clash with Alejandro Garnacho after the Europa League final.
Shaw lauded the coach’s straightforward style of leadership and pointed out that dedication is now a must.“Ruben expects 100%. If you are doing 85-90%, it is definitely not enough.
He doesn’t care who you are,” Shaw said. “The more experienced players need to step up too. Standards must be high.”Shaw deeply believes that with Amorim firmly setting the needle, the squad is all geared up for the new journey.
