The stage is set for a political battle in Edo State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) throws down the towel, challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, to a debate with their own candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made it clear at a press conference on Sunday that Ighodalo is gaining significant traction and is well-positioned for a strong victory. According to Ologunagba, Ighodalo’s popularity is evident in the enthusiastic crowds at their rallies across Edo State, even attracting support from some APC members.
With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) setting September 21 for the governorship election, both the APC and PDP candidates are on the campaign trail, trying to win over voters in every corner of the state.
Ologunagba didn’t hold back in his criticism of Okpebholo, accusing him of avoiding media scrutiny and public debates. He urged Okpebholo to face the media and engage in a public debate if he truly believes in his candidacy.
The PDP spokesperson suggested that Okpebholo’s reluctance to interact with the public and the media is a sign of his weakness and lack of substance. “If Monday Okpebholo has anything to offer the people of Edo State, he should step up and face public scrutiny,” Ologunagba said.
As the political drama unfolds, it looks like Edo State is in for a fiery electoral battle. Are you ready for the battle?
