Portugal continued unbeaten in the UEFA Nations League with a convincing victory against Poland, 3-1, at PGE Narodowy and stretched the head-to-head lead to six straight games in all competitions. The Selecao took control midway through the first half via a well-placed volley by Bernardo Silva, thanks to an ingenious assist provided by Bruno Fernandes.
Then came Cristiano Ronaldo in the nick of time, coolly tapping into an open net following Rafael Leao’s shot from post to post.
Poland tried to respond after the break but were pegged back by Portugal’s swift counter-attacks. Ronaldo had the chance to add even more cushion but was selfless to pass on to Fernandes, who failed to convert the chance to kill the game.
A lifeline then came to Poland in the 75-minute mark through Piotr Zielinski, slotted home to cut down the deficit. However, as they pressed for the equaliser, Portugal again caught them out, this time with Jan Bednarek turning a Nuno Mendes cross into his own net to seal the visitors’ victory.
The win keeps Portugal perfect with nine points from three games, while Poland remains in trouble after their second straight defeat following the initial win against Scotland.
