The residents of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State are very happy because nine Ogoni communities now have electricity for the first time in eight years. These communities, which include Gbam Bonue, Kereken Boue, and Nyorkwiri Boue, had been without power since 2016, which badly affected their local businesses and social life.
The return of electricity has made many people very happy, and hundreds of them came together to celebrate. The leader of Gbam Boue community, Neeka Daasang, is very pleased with the electricity coming back, saying it will help the community grow and bring back local activities.
Yobana stated that his administration had initiated the Rural Electrification Rehabilitation project to end the years of darkness faced by his people. He questioned why successive administrations had allowed residents to live without electricity for so long.
Power restoration is expected to greatly affect the local economy and social life in the area. The communities had to use other energy sources, which made things more expensive and slowed down economic growth.
The electricity project is a part of the state government’s plan to meet the needs and desires of its people. Governor Siminalayi Fubara asked local leaders to focus on the needs of their people, which led to starting this project.
