Thousands of Ukraine residents were left without power on Tuesday, April 16, after powerful winds and heavy rain destroyed electrical infrastructure, according to the authorities.

The overnight storms had added further strain on Ukraine’s fragile energy system.
Ukraine has been reeling from the repeated Russian bombardment of its bases for the past three and a half weeks.

Ukraine’s energy ministry had revealed that due to the bad weather, 173 settlements in four regions are without electricity supply.

Dnipropetrovsk is the worst affected area, with over 15,000 people being cut off in 96 towns and villages.

One of the main energy providers, DTEK, had said that its engineers had worked “all night and in the morning” to bring back power to the region.

The storms had come weeks after the national grid operator, Ukrenergo, issued warnings that Ukraine needed to totally overhaul its energy system amid a series of deadly Russian strikes.

On March 22, Moscow launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine power grid and has kept up strikes since, leaving more than a million people without electricity.
