The nine-time champions have returned to Casablanca to battle for third place at WAFCON 22 in their match against Zambia’s Shepolopolo. The players and officials arrived yesterday afternoon for the game which is due to take place on Friday at the Stade Mohammed V Casablanca stadium.
The Super Falcons missed a chance to qualify for the WAFCON Finals after losing to the Atlass Lionesses of Morocco on penalties. Onumonu’s miss cost the team victory in the semifinals.
Third place is not what we were hoping for, still, the girls gave it their all in the WAFCON semifinals, the odds were against them as nine players went up against eleven in the second half and Atlass Lionesses failed to score any goal. They were defeated on penalties. It shows that despite the defeat, our girls are still the giants of African women’s football.
Halimat Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade are suspended from the game after receiving red cards in the semifinals.
