A portion of a Samsung building still under construction at Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, near Banex Junction, Abuja, has collapsed.
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, FEMD, confirmed the incident, which occurred during the casting of the penthouse of the three-storey structure. Abdulrahman Mohammed, acting Director-General of FEMD, said no life was lost, but four out of the 10 workers on site sustained minor injuries. They were taken to Wuse General Hospital for treatment.
Mohammed, in his statement, underscored the need for adherence to building codes and observance of safety standards in construction. He also called on residents to utilize the toll-free emergency number, 112, for quick reporting of disasters.
This incident has again brought to the fore the need for closer monitoring of construction projects to avoid such incidents in the future.
