Nollywood veteran Toyin Afolayan, widely known as Lola Idije, has spoken out to clear misconceptions about her personality, stressing that her film roles do not mirror her real-life character.

In a candid conversation with actress Ayo Adesanya, Lola Idije—often cast as a stern mother-in-law in Yoruba films—explained that her intense portrayals are purely professional and do not reflect her personal nature.

“I am not wicked in reality. My faith in God guides me, and I live a modest lifestyle. I don’t indulge in drinking, smoking, or other habits people often associate with movie characters,” she said.

The actress also credited her disciplined approach to acting to the influence of her late ‘brother,’ Adeyemi Afolayan, famously known as Ade Love, a trailblazer in Nollywood.

Lola Idije first gained national attention in 1995 with her performance as Madam Adisa in Deadly Affair, a role that earned her widespread recognition.

Beyond acting, she has left a lasting mark on Nigerian pop culture by popularizing catchphrases like “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear,” which continue to trend on social media.
