Nigerian music star, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, has made the history books by being the first artiste to win the ‘Favourite Afrobeat Artiste’ category in the American Music Awards.
The 50th edition of the event was held on Sunday, November 2o, at the Microsoft Theatre, California. This is the first time that the Favourite Afrobeat Artiste category is being introduced to the award show and Nigeria singer, Wizkid had made history by being the first African and Nigerian to win an American Music Award.
The award organisers had made this known to the public via their official twitter account on Sunday. Wizkid’s song with Tems on Essence had also won in the Favourite R&B Song category at the event.
Wizkid had beat out other top Nigerian artistes including: Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems to win the “Favourite Afrobeat artist” Award.
