Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has shared the emotional and unforgettable experience of meeting her longtime idol, Rihanna.
In a recent interview with ETalk TV, the Mavin Records star opened up about how surreal it felt to meet the global pop icon—and how even more incredible it was to learn that Rihanna is a fan of her music.
“She [Rihanna] is such an amazing person. To be honest, it [meeting her] still feels like a dream. I love her so much. People always say, ‘never meet your idols’, but I’m so glad I met mine because she’s just an amazing person. And the fact that she loves my music; I’m my favourite artist’s favourite artist,” she said with excitement.
Ayra described Rihanna as not just a music legend but also someone who embodies the values and strength she admires.
“She’s such an amazing artist, an amazing woman, an amazing person in general; somebody to look up to. I know I chose a great role model,” she added.
The Rush crooner admitted that being around Rihanna can be nerve-racking, and to ease the tension, she often resorts to making awkward jokes.
“Being able to be around her, I usually don’t know what to do with myself. When I get nervous around her, I try to make unnecessary jokes,” she confessed.
Looking ahead, Ayra Starr revealed that she’s hopeful about collaborating with Rihanna one day, calling it a dream she’s holding on to.
