The ministry of Sports on Monday through a statement signed by its Director, Press and Press Relations, Mohammed Manga, had confirmed the setting up of a ten-man committee to oversee the affairs of Basketball in the nation.
The ministry had earlier banned the basketball teams from international football and they have now selected an interim management committee to control the Nigerian Basketball teams. This decision was backed by president Mohammad Buhari and was taken due to a rift in the Basketball administration. The ministry claimed to be putting an end to the crisis and also renovating the sports from the grassroots.
This move by the government is against the international federation, FIBA, rules which frown upon third-party interference in the affairs of a Basketball team. This could get the Nigerian team serious sanctions from FIBA.
