Nigerian Juju music legend, Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has emphasized that creating timeless hits is the ultimate legacy for musicians.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Sir Shina Peters noted that every artist aspires to leave behind songs that endure through generations.
The 67-year-old music icon revealed that he feels fulfilled with four classic hits to his name, claiming he surpasses the late American superstar Michael Jackson in this regard.
“The only thing you can show for showbiz at the end is how many evergreens you have produced. To my credit, I have four evergreens. Even Michael Jackson has just two; Of The World and Thriller.
“So, if I have four, I am accomplished,” he stated.
Despite his sense of achievement, Sir Shina Peters voiced concerns about the current state of the Nigerian music scene.
He lamented that the standards established by his generation have been “bastardised” by many of today’s artists.
